I finally had some time to finish the fourth zelda fan art. As i stated on my previous descriptions, my goal now is to finish all the sages from Ocarina of Time. I had an overwhelming response to the three maind portraits: Zelda, Link and Ganondorf, and i’m very glad and inspired to move forward with this. I said once but i’ll say again, this series is made of pure passion and love for the series.
The realistic approach caused some pollemic response, and i think this is only natural, since Zelda has a legion of fans. I’m not trying to portrait here or state a definitive version, or say that the realistic is the way to go with the series. This is only an illustrator fan using his most beloved game franchise for an illustration exercise, and also making a journey and revisiting such wonderfull characters. Check the blog to see the process: [link] .
I love this realistic version; I always got annoyed at the OoT Gorons because they looked more like frogs than rock-people, and I really like the textures you used here. It almost looks like he has a small scar across his forehead. Darunia was always one of my favorite sages, mainly because of how he pretty much adopted Link. I loved that scene right after Link saved them where he gives the young hero a pat on the head and almost kills the poor kid. Really well done; everything looks perfect, especially his hair and facial expression.
Thanks! That was a challenge. To take such a cartoonish iteration of a stone golem like the Gorons and making that realistic. But too much fun nevertheless.
You did a great job with the realism, and it's great that you had fun while doing so. Are you planning on doing the rest of the sages, or was Darunia the only one you wanted to do?
Sure, in fact Rauru, Impa and Ruto are practically finished. Just need to arrange the Printing Sales post, and syncronize that with the new portraits. I'm willing to do as much characters as i can. I'll finish the Sages first, then move on to the secondary characters. I'm really passionate about this game.
I can't wait to see Impa! I hope you did her as realistically as Darunia. I get sick of the out-of-proportion fanart of her. It'll be awesome to see the others, too.
This is SO amazing, I absolutely LOVE the concept of Gorons being made of rock themselves, or at least looking like it. I love that even his HAIR looks like actual stone. This is outstanding, I cannot WAIT to see your other sages (especially Ruto and Impa)!
Thanks a lot. They're almost done in fact. Will be posting them really soon. Please take a look at my last journal entry, as i'm arranging a limited printing of the zelda portraits. Thanks!
